Vanessa
Williams
Vanessa
Williams was born in Millwood, New York, on March 18, 1963. Both of her
parents were music teachers who encouraged her to pursue her love of
the arts. She won a Presidential Scholarship in Drama to Syracuse
University, where she majored in musical theater. After winning
the 1984 Miss America beauty pageant, she became a singer (garnering 14
Grammy nominations, as well as many other awards). Her film
credits
include "Eraser", "Soul Food" and "Shaft". She has, also,
appeared
on Broadway. Married to Rick Fox of the Los Angeles Lakers, the
couple live in Los Angeles and New York and have five children between
them.
Vanessa joined the cast of "Boomtown" at the beginning of the second
season, portraying Detective Katherine Pierce.
Katherine Pierce is a strong,
dedicated police officer who transferred from the South Bureau's
Robbery/Homicide Division where she attained the rank of D3,
Supervising Detective. Although she exudes sophistication,
Katherine grew up "rural poor" in Clancyville, North Carolina.
Vanessa describes her role as Katherine:
"I signed on, not even
knowing
what I was going to do and what my character was. So I put myself right
in
the heat of things, and I trusted [executive producers Graham Yost and
Jon
Avnet] to do what they do best, which is make exciting television."
